Editor's comments:
Regenerative therapy are common procedures in periodontal treatment, implantology and oral and maxillofacial surgery. Regenerative therapy surgical methods include guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and guided bone regeneration (GBR) techniques. The main purpose of barrier membranes placed over areas of tissue/bone defects is the blocking of cell invasion from the gingival epithelium and connective tissues. A better understanding of the various types of membranes available and their properties are absolutely necessary in making clinical decisions.
