Educational Aim:
The aim of this article is firstly, to inform dental and general practitioners on the relationship between periodontitis and arterial hypertension increase, and secondly to raise their awareness of the risks and prevention of arterial hypertension.

Editor's comments:
Periodontitis is a chronic systemic disease of public health importance. It occurs in about 50% of the world’s population. Periodontitis leads to increase in blood pressure, increasing risk in arterial hypertension. This review suggests that treatment of periodontal disease is important in preventing arterial hypertension and a method of increasing the effectiveness of antihypertensive treatment.
