To create greater awareness of the risks of diabetic-related foot complications that could result in amputations in the lower limbs, as well as the role that a podiatry lead multidisciplinary team could play in reducing these complications.
Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:
- The ongoing improvements to services that include greater inpatient focus, expanding the multidisciplinary approach, and to provide more accessible services.
- Providing education for those highlighted to be at high risk, including daily monitoring of feet, identification of early signs of infection and seeking medical assessment for any foot trauma.
- Actions to initiate and encourage referral pathways both prior to, during and following hospitalisation.
