This article looks at current evidence around predictors of return to work in workers with musculoskeletal and common mental disorders and critically analyses the tools used to generate these predictions.

Educational Aim:

This article aims to provide practical information for clinical and research practices regarding the identification and measurement of modifiable predictive factors for return to work (RTW) in people with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and common mental disorders (CMDs).

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

1. The impact of successful RTW on both the individual and the immediate family/community.
2. Some factors that promote or hinder RTW and which of these are seen as modifiable.
3. Some of the tools used to measure these factors and their psychometric and usability criteria.
