The South African Academy of Family Physicians (SAAFP) was founded in 1980 and since then is dedicated to the furtherance of the discipline of family medicine at both an academic and a clinical level and is devoted to the welfare of its professional members.
SAAFP provides members with many services including free access to the official Journal of the SAAFP - "South African Family Practice" - numerous CPD activities at branch and national level, support and advice from experts, the production of practice guidelines, co-ordination of training and standards at the universities, and negotiation with funders regarding the reimbursement for family physician services.
SAAFP is also active in providing members with guidance and assistance over issues such as ethical billing practice and ethical practice.
Through its local branch meetings and national conferences, SAAFP endeavours to maintain a high standard of academic awareness amongst its members.
