This study investigated EMG activity of specific kinetically linked muscles including trunk, core, and thigh muscles during common rehabilitation exercises for ACL injury.

Keywords: EMG, imbalance, Neuromuscular function, ACL

Reading material:

Educational Objectives

Educational Aim:
The aim of the study is to determine the EMG activation of eight different muscles including the thigh, core/hip, and trunk during ACL rehabilitation exercises in order to provide further knowledge for the progression of training, injury prevention, and further rehabilitation strategies.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

  1. Which exercises has more neuromuscular firing in specific muscles
  2. The relationship between ACL rehabilitation and activation of different kinetically linked muscles
  3. Gaining knowledge on how ACL rehabilitation programmes can be progressed by using specific exercises
  4. How & which pre-habilitative exercises to do to prevent ACL injury
  5. Which combination of exercises can be done to improve imbalance in the quadriceps-hamstring muscle groups.
