Educational Objectives

Educational Aim:
The aim of this article is to highlight the fact that a standardized approach to syncope evaluation can lead to a reduction in hospital admissions and medical costs, as well as increasing the diagnostic accuracy.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

1. Syncope is classified as neurally mediated, cardiac and orthostatic hypotension and the differences between each of them.

2. In cases of unexplained syncope, provocative testing and prolonged electrocardiographic monitoring strategies can assist in diagnosis.
3. The treatment modalities for the different classifications of syncope.
