The aim of this article was to synthesise evidence on the effects of fatigue and insufficient sleep on physicians in independent practice.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

  1. fatigue and insufficient sleep are associated with some detrimental physician health and well-being outcomes
  2. burnout has been shown to be more prevalent among the sleep-deprived
  3. there is an inverse association between fatigue or sleep deprivation and stress.
