The coaching relationship is a known predictor of coaching success, and trust is a key ingredient of a high-quality coach–coachee relationship. This study investigated whether coachee characteristics influence trust in a coaching relationship.

The aim of this article was to investigate how the personality traits of a coachee influences the coach-coachee relationship.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

  1. The importance of cultural factors when researching trust and coaching efficacy
  2. The possibility that the Big Five traits have a significant association (directly and indirectly) with the trust constructs
  3. The possibility that there is a link between the propensity of the coachee to trust, their perception of the trustworthiness of their coach and the ultimate level of trust they exhibit in the coaching relationship.
