Investigating if quality of functional movement patterns can predict injury risk
This article investigates how whether poor quality of movement patterns and poor flexibility can predict the risk of injury and the researchers primarily uses the Functional Movement Screen to test the participants’ movement patterns.
Educational Objectives
Educational Aim:
The aim of this article is to investigate the
degree to which low quality of movement patterns and poor flexibility can
predict injury risks of physically active adults.
Editor's comments:
This research article demonstrates the potential
value of screening and testing sport participants’ quality of movement patterns
in order to predict whether they are at risk of injury and if they are that
they should address their weaknesses to prevent injuries. But the researchers
acknowledge that there are other factors to injury occurrences, but those
factors wasn’t part of the study.
Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:
Understanding of what the phrase “quality of movement patterns” means.
- Understanding of the Functional Movement Screen
- You will understand whether Movement-pattern-quality and flexibility may or may not be able to predict the risk of injuries.
