The 2020 Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative (KDOQI) Clinical Practice Guideline for Nutrition in chronic kidney disease (CKD) recommends protein restriction in these patients in stages 3 to 5 (not on dialysis), provided they are metabolically stable, with the goal to delay kidney failure and improve quality of life.
