The purpose of the article is to publish the results from a scoping review on previous Occupational Therapy interventions for adults with severe mental illness.

Educational Objectives

Educational Aim:
The aim of this article is to identify the Occupational Therapy interventions in adults with severe mental illness which have been most investigated in previous intervention studies and to describe their characteristics.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

1. The benefits of Occupational Therapy (OT) intervention in severe mental illness (SMI)

2. The four main investigated Occupational Therapy interventions
3. The importance of regular OT intervention in SMI for cognition, social skills and mood.
4. The benefits of a full Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) for treatment of SMI.
