Speech intelligibility improvements with Smart Speakers
This article investigates the effects of using Smart Speakers on speech ineligibility, in individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Educational Objectives
Educational Aim:
The aim of this article is to bring awareness
that adults with intellectual disabilities can continue to make strides in
terms of speech intelligibility, that mainstream devices like Alexa can improve
both quality of life and speech intelligibility and that we must continue to look
at novel ways to make communication easier.
Editor's comments:
This article provides a novel option for
improving speech intelligibility in the Intellectually disabled. While these
items are expensive, they could be more easily accessed than speech therapy and
help increase independence.
