Educational Objectives
Educational Aim:
The aim of this talk is to give occasional anaesthetists an approach to dealing with common problems encountered during obstetric spinal anaesthesia.
Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:
- The common problems encountered during obstetric spinal anaesthesia
- The importance of effectively managing these complications
- The importance of the ESMOE guidelines
- An awareness of recent drug error reports with tranexamic acid
- Issues related to spinal needle type
- An approach to stock-outs of hyperbaric bupivacaine
- Dealing with partial or complete spinal block failure
- Dealing with pain during a caesarean section
- Managing obstetric spinal hypotension
