Educational Aim:
The aim of this article was to add to the wide range of studies which have shown associations between Workplace Violence and adverse mental health including Public Health Workers and their work environments.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

  1. A total of 35% of PHWs experienced at least 1 form or combination of forms of Workplace Violence, and that violence was associated with a detrimental impact on Public Health Workers’ mental health.
  2. The more Workplace Violence the Public Health Worker experienced, the more likely they were to report symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and Suicidal Ideation.
  3. There is a dose-response relationship between the number of workplace violence events experienced by a public health worker and the likelihood of reporting mental health symptoms
