Educational Objectives

Educational Aim:

The aim of this article is to investigate the shape of the relationships between housework and spousal relative income separately for couples with and without children.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

  1. Gender deviance neutralization overrides the logic of efficient resource exchange specifically among parents.
  2. Contrary to the specialization and bargaining theories, a wife’s relatively higher income coincides with an even larger difference between her and his housework time.
  3. Children expand a mother’s housework hours more than a father’s, widening the housework gap; however, these effects are not uniform across spousal relative income.
