Educational Aim:
The aim of this article is to equip the primary care physician with a clinically applicable approach to patients presenting with vertigo & dizziness.
Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:
- How to take a clear and focused history from a patient presenting with vertigo.
- How to identify and appropriately refer patients with medical emergencies presenting with vertigo.
- How to conduct a comprehensive bedside vestibular assessment.
- How to distinguish between central and peripheral causes of vertigo clinically.
- The basic principles and the evidence of pharmacotherapy in the management of patients with acute vertigo.
- The principles & the evidence of vestibular rehabilitation management and the role of the primary care & allied health plays.
