Educational Objectives

Educational Aim:

The aim of this article is to equip the primary care physician with a clinically applicable approach to patients presenting with vertigo & dizziness.

Educational Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module practitioners should have a clear understanding of:

  1. How to take a clear and focused history from a patient presenting with vertigo.
  2. How to identify and appropriately refer patients with medical emergencies presenting with vertigo. 
  3. How to conduct a comprehensive bedside vestibular assessment.
  4. How to distinguish between central and peripheral causes of vertigo clinically.
  5. The basic principles and the evidence of pharmacotherapy in the management of patients with acute vertigo.
  6. The principles & the evidence of vestibular rehabilitation management and the role of the primary care & allied health plays.
